Hello everyone,
I've been leading an investigation for quite a while now. I won't discuss it today, but I will share my work around it in the near future.
But it led me to a side quest: I've discovered quite a fascinating program. It's called Terror Engine. It had some controversies because of a famous creepypasta which really went nuts. But originally, this game engine was intended for non-programmers to build horror games. It's not really a sophisticated engine, nor is it a good one, to be fully honest. But I think it has its place in Internet history.
The original creator is Zeoworks. He's actually pretty popular in the indie horror game community, and you might even know him for SlendyTubbies 1, 2 and 3. However, the game has one huge issue: you can't build the game into a standalone game anymore, as it is soft-locked. The engine requires you to log in to a Zeoworks account, but the servers are down...
Like many online games/services, this is what will always eventually happen, so I decided to repair the game for each one of you and remove this soft-lock. The goal is not to crack or modify the game, but simply to repair it as the original author intended.
(You can't do anything else, the engine is locked)
I can't fully detail how I did it, simply because of legal reasons. But basically, I reverse-engineered the game and produced the patch. (In Europe, reverse-engineering is allowed for repair purposes: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ%3AL%3A2009%3A111%3A0016%3A0022%3AEN%3APDF)
(When the patch is applied, the feature is unlocked)
Where can i get it ?
I've hosted the unlocked copy on my site. It's basically the same as the original Terror Engine, without the soft-lock.
